Coastal Women had a strong start to their season against Southern.
A good start to the game had the Coastal ladies up 17-10 at half time. The Coastal powerful forward pack were rewarded for their work with Leah Barnard scoring 2 tries and Jaymi Ngaia scoring 1 try, and Beth Cook converting one of those tries. It was going to need a gusty effort from the Coastal Women as they only had 15 players available to play, they had to dig deep throughout the game.
Second half was always going to be tough, with Southern bringing on fresh legs. Coastal ladies scored 2 more tries in the second half through Leah Barnard and Anna Hita, but Southern took the win 34-27. The Coastal team were postive about what they had achieved and there were alot of learnings to take from the game.
Coach Toka Walden said "the line outs was a standout, which then lead to strong line out drives." Leah Barnard had a stand out game, with her hat trick of tries earning her Coastal Player of The Day.
A bye next week will give time for injuries to heal, and aim to get a full squad ready to play their next game against Okaiawa April 15th
